Janice Gordon is an artist who loves the countryside in all its seasons, the wildlife, flowers, livestock and country sports. Painting mainly in pastel and oil (and occasionally watercolour) she covers a wide range of subject matter from commissioned portraits of dogs, horses, racing scenes and heavy horses to landscapes and studies of the vast Fenland skies. A keen supporter of the Percheron horse she enjoys painting these magnificent animals, from mares and foals to the immaculate teams at the agricultural shows.
Recently she has developed a more abstract approach in pastel and won the Gladys Teesdale memorial prize at the Welland Valley Art Exhibition with a vibrant pastel entitled Orchids and Oranges and hopes to do more of this type of painting in the future.
Over the past 30 years she has exhibited in London with the Pastel Society, the Society of Women Artists and the Soc of Equestrian Artists. She has recently been elected an Associate member of the Armed Forces Art Society. In 2004 she was a finalist in the Daily Mail "NOT the Turner Prize" with a painting of Norfolk farmer Robin Combe entitled "Sunday Morning".
